Shopping in a Singapore outlet is a special experience! This beautiful island country is one of Asia’s top tourist spots and the perfect place for a stopover when escaping the winter cold.. You need to plan at least a day to indulge in some Sinapore (outlet) shopping. The lion city (Singapore comes from the Malay word Singapura which in English means lion city) is a thriving business hub with a huge shopping district (e.g. at orchard road) where you can find every brand from the high end fashion sector and then some.
Before going deeper into the Singapore outlet shopping scene however one word of advice: do not come to Singapore if you are only interested in good deals for designer cloth shopping! The prices even in the outlets are way higher than in the United States or Europe. You can check out the outlet homepage for special sales but even than the price will only be comparable to a “normal” outlet price elsewhere. If you are from Singapore a flight to Europe for a nice 2 day shopping spree in Metzingen will probably break even after 2 or 3 outfits!
Singapore Outlet Malls
Once you are in Singapore though there is no reason not to check out the amazing selection! As said above you can get new items in the shopping malls or flagship stores on Orchard road. There are big stores for Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Armani, Boss, Burberry, etc. as well as malls with international (ION, Paragon) and more local (Tanglin Mall, Delfi Orchard) orientation. Apart from fashion you can also get a wide selection of perfume at very competitive prices. They sometimes sell testers or even the original packaging for less than 50% of the normal department store price.
For a Singapore outlet shopping experience you should check out the Johor Premium Outlets in Indahpura close to Singapore. From Singapore center (e.g. Orchard road) the trip takes about 45 minutes using the second link expressway. In case you do not want to go by car you can also take a Causeway Link bus to the Singapore outlet. Departure points are the Jurong East Bus & MRT Interchange to the west or Queen street in the center. The Bus takes about 45 minutes as well and costs about 3 S$.
The Singapore outlet itself has most of the international designer labels like Armani, Burberry, Zegna, Calvin Klein, etc. You can also find more American Brands like Polo Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and of course Coach. We have covered this shopping heaven in this Johor Premium Outlet guide.
Second Hand Designer Shops in Singapore
As mentioned the prices even in Singapore outlets are very steep but there are also places that sell preloved items. Luckily a lot of them are also close to Orchard road so you can combine your shopping. Some very good shops are in the Far East Shopping Centre on 545 Orchard Road, right next to the Hilton hotel.
The biggest shop there is “The attic place”, they have a pretty huge collection and the best thing is you can browse the available items in their online catalogue before going to the shop. They are not open on Sundays and holidays and only open at 11:30h so don’t come too early. There are more second hand shops in the same mall, you can also find “Glamourette Collections” which has an online catalogue as well. The shop is a bit smaller than the attic place so selection is not as big.
If you did not find something so far try the Lucky Plaza in 304 Orchard Road. This is within walking distance from the Far East shopping center, just walk down Orchard road, pass the ION Shopping Mall (or maybe stop there for a short shopping spree as many flagship stores of designer brands are in the ION) and you will see it on the other side of the street. Shops in the Lucky Plaza include Secondo (03-51) and Brand Rumors (04-59). They are open until 19:00h so you should try Lucky Plaza after Far East Centre.
There are sales all year round in Singapore but a very good time to come is before the Chinese new year in February as many shops have a clearance sale then. Just do not come directly on (Chinese) new year’s eve as many shops are closed on public holiday and even the bridging days. This is especially true if you want some additional savings in the Singapore outlet as they offer special sales at those times.
